diablo

How do we make all the magic stuff work? Maybe this page should be about magic in the Diablo Universe, in general terms, and Magic (disambiguation) list all pages that contain Magic in the title:

Forgive my stupidity, but do you wanna create a disambig here or a page that details all kinds of magic in the Diablo Universe??? The second seems to be the better option... By the way, HUGE peacemu changes list today... "Fear me... Part deux!!!" (f")f <-- Mobokill 15:00, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
I'll make a table to show exactly what I want to do:
Article Magic Magic (disambiguation) Magic (attribute) Arcane Magic Items
Content An article about magic in general Disabig containing links to: Magic, Magic (attribute), Magic Items, Arcane Page about the D1 attribute Magic damage Already exists, and is pretty self explanatory
And dude I may not be editing as much but I'm still devoting time to this wiki. I'm making stuff for the new skin. - DanTalk 15:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh man... THAT WAS NOT MEANT FOR YOU. I meant that BMK edited like you did when you started out. Sorry for my choice of words :-P I said it before, I'm a moron :) So, no hard feelings??? Heh heh. You're banning me right?? :-> "Fear me... Part deux!!!" (f")f <-- Mobokill 16:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Telekinesis

Is telekinesis actually a school of magic? Various individuals have used telekinesis, none have used it in battle (Imperius' control of weapons is likely because of his aspect of valor, so I don't count that). Has any limitation of this school of magic been mentioned before? InZodwetrust (talk). March 20, 18:48 (GMT+1)

I wouldn't say so. Telekinesis has been used, but I'm not sure the term itself ever has been. It's certainly not enough to consider it its own branch of magic.Hawki (talk) 20:48, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

Dark Magic

Are blood magic, necromancy and demonic magic related to (or are subsets of) dark magic? InZodwetrust (talk). February 22, 12:16 (GMT+1)

Don't think so. A lot of magical terms are seemingly thrown around, but blood magic and necromancy have clear themes (so to speak), they don't appear to be dark magic subsets. The closest theme for dark magic appears to be the Witch Doctor - plagues, bugs, etc. Also, I don't think necromancy can really be called "dark," in that given its relationship to the Balance, necromancy isn't inherently malignant in the setting.Hawki (talk) 11:58, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
They do have some similarities;
  • Fleshcrafting
    • Necromancy
      • Necromancers craft golems from blood and bone.
    • Dark Magic
    • Blood Magic
      • Butcher Demons are created with blood magic.
      • The theme of the ritual used to create the Amalgam of Rage implies that it's blood magic, which Lilith is known to be good at.
    • Demonic Magic
      • Various demon lords have warped or crafted minions on different occasions.
  • Minions
  • Source
    • Necromancy draws power from death.
    • Dark magic used by Witch Doctors draw power from the Unformed Land, aka the Land of the Dead.
    • Demonic magic is empowered by flesh and blood (ie it can be empowered by killing a sacrifice). InZodwetrust (talk). February 22, 20:00 (GMT+1)
Yes, those are similarities, but it doesn't make them subsets.Hawki (talk) 21:49, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
In Between Two Evils, Akara said that dark magic corrupted the Dark Wood, but Hemlir said the source of the corruption is a woman; implied to be the Countess. The ritual that was occuring for her resurrection is clearly blood magic (as seen by the massive amounts of blood channeled to the Blood Rose). Doesn't this mean that blood magic and dark magic are connected? InZodwetrust (talk). March 10, 2026 7:43 (GMT+1)

Users

I think "Mage" is the general term used to refer to any type of magic user, with different names given to Mages with specific specialities or modes of operation.

I could be wrong on this as I have not looked into it, but I think mages are more like trained or "professional" magic users. Someone who practices it as a primary focus, not just anyone who uses magic. For example, the Edyrem who followed Uldyssian had access to a lot of magic, but I do not believe they were ever referred to as mages.

I agree with your point. So, a mage would be any magic-user with proficient knowledge and ability in a magic discipline(s). InZodwetrust (talk). March 31, 2026 9:27 (GMT+1)

Dark Magic 2 (Darkness and Magic)

Holy magic can be simplified as the manipulation of the Light to various effects. This can be sourced from one's inner light (Wardens of Light), a realm of Light like the Heavens (Cathan in creating the first Holy Bolt) or faith (the Veradani and Zakarum). Similarly dark magic at its core should be the manipulation of darkness to various effects. Darkness in this case can be sourced from oneself through emotions (Leoric's curse on Lachdanan), another realm like the Spirit World (Witch Doctors) or Hells (Warlocks), or through faith (Cultists and the Veradani).

Also, darkness has an unyielding hunger for life, so any magic that fundamentally requires the sacrifice of life—or essence, the energy of life; or souls which contain essence—shapes darkness, making them a type of dark magic. These magics are blood magic and necromancy respectively, with demonic and "traditional" dark magic both consuming souls. Practitioners reduce the cost by making others pay it (hence the sacrifices involved in grand workings of these magics). InZodwetrust (talk). April 2, 2026 10:50 (GMT+1)

Dark Magic Necromancy

I've seen what may be a confirmation of a relationship between dark magic and necromancy. It says here that Necromancers need to control their emotions while wielding dark magic to prevent it from turning on them. These pages then state that it's when raising vengeful spirits that they need to still their emotions, as the spirits can feed on them. Besides, necromancy is also called "dark arts". InZodwetrust (talk). April 19, 2026 16:19 (GMT+1)

Going through the article, "dark magic" and "dark arts" are being used as descriptives rather than actual schools/branches of magic.Hawki (talk) 23:11, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
