Lore
"Your lot was always defeat, wretch! Have you not seen how I am the Sun's purifying conduit? Now receive your final judgment...and burn to nothingness!"
The moon sometimes moves in front of the sun, causing an eclipse.[1] Great power is said to be found in an eclipse.[2] At least some cultures have used the sun to measure time.[3]
Mythology
A number of tales pertain to the sun:
- In the Fable of the Great Sky-Hunt, Genai took up her bow and aimed at the sun itself. The light burned her eyes, but her arrow flew true. Wounded, the sun hid, and brought forth the first night.[4]
- In Greenslade's Tales, the sun is given male personification. It states that when the sun dipped behind the hills each night, he knew that Ashen Jack would be near.[5]
- In Spiritborn mythology, the Sunbird swallowed the sun whole. In the dark, the Spiritborn Xipil crawled to its nest and tore the sun free from the bird's gullet.[6]
- The Canticle of the Penitent states that the sun looked upon man and judged him unworthy. In wrath, the sins of the faithless were scourged in flame upon their flesh. And the day was made pure again.[7]
